Volunteer work
I enjoy doing volunteer work during my pass time as it is a meaningful way to help those in need.
[In reverse chronological order]
Project Green Thumbs

I participated in Project Green Thumbs, by BP-NP mentoring club, as a group leader to facilitate a program for children from both Care Corner and Tasek Jurong organisation. It was an online event to host a workshop to teach the children how to make their own terrarium as well as how to take care of it. We also kept the children occupied by organizing games for them.

Project Interact

I participated in Project Interact during LEO Club's Subcommittee Recruitment Camp. It was an online project to bridge the generation gap between elderly and teenagers. We played games with the elderly over zoom as well as taught them how to use social media and the different functions.

BP-NP Mentoring

I volunteered as a mentor at Care Corner Woodlands Centre to help primary school children with their school work. Most of the children there face financial difficulties or learning difficulties and might be unable to cope with their school work. Hence, together with another mentor, we hold mentoring sessions for two primary 5 students weekly to assist them with their school work for 6 months.

I participated in a volunteer training to understand more about volunteering and how we can interact with the people that we are serving better.

Kindness campaign

In secondary 4, when covid-19 hit, I was involved in planning a kindness campaign to encourage the whole school to write letters to the frontline workers to thank them for keeping our country safe. The letters were then collated into a board and were given to the staff at a hospital.

VIA Project

In secondary 3, I was involved in the planning, coordination and implementation with a team for our class VIA project at the Lions Befrienders Senior Activity Centre. We interacted and played games with the elderly to keep them entertained. We also realised the difficulties that the elderly faced and decided to assist them. In response to the needs of these elderly, we subsequently organized a school-based donation drive to collect daily necessities from the whole school before delivering it to the centre.

VIA Project

During the holidays, I would go to a student care centre, Brighton Connection Student Care Centre, together with my friends to volunteer to help tutor the underprivileged children there. During Christmas, we also assisted the centre in giving out Christmas packages, containing food, beverages and games to the underprivileged families in the neighborhood. This is to allow them to be able to celebrate Christmas together as a family.

VIA Project

In secondary 2, I was involved in the planning, coordination and implementation with a team for our class VIA project at Brighton Connection Student Care. The centre often receives many food donations, however, they do not have time to sort the food out and distribute it to the underprivileged students there. Hence, our class visited the centre to help them sort out the food as well as discard food which are expired or going to expire. We then packed the food in hampers to allow the centre to distribute it to the students.
